Nick and Nora’s in Paramatta, the latest bar from the Speakeasy group brings opulence and lavish offerings to Sydney’s west.
After creating Viking-themed venues in both Sydney and Melbourne, the Speakeasy Group (Eau de Vie, EDV Melbourne, Boilermaker House and Mjolner Sydney and Melbourne) has set their sights on Sydney’s west, bringing the glamour of post-prohibition America with cocktails, champagne, caviar and cigars.
Perched on the 26th floor of ‘V by Crown’ in Parramatta, Nick and Nora’s brings lavish offerings with a rooftop bar experience. With 270 degree uninterrupted views and capacity for 300 which includes 100 guests on the terrace facing Sydney CBD and the Harbour, the venue begs to be experienced.
The bar derives its name from Nick and Nora Charles, the fictional characters from Dashiell Hammett’s novel and film The Thin Man. The detective couple are renowned for their affinity for fine libations, mainly Martinis as the favourite cocktail as well as champagne. The concept behind the venue is to bring an experience that would mimic what it would have been like if guests had stepped into an extravagant soirée hosted by the murder-solving duo.
An impressive 11-metre long bar is home to over 900 spirits including a coveted list of whiskies, cognac and brandy. Climate controlled fridges house an extensive list of over 50 champagnes, some by the glass from the region’s most highly regarded houses. Fine cigars are also on offer as well as a raw bar with a range of oysters, caviar and meat and cheese boards.
Nick and Nora’s extensive cocktail list is divided into sections where each is named after classic detective noir characters and the libations in which they are likely to partake. Femme Fatale features Martinis which can be ordered for up to 4 guests while the Hollywood Starlet, who only drinks cocktails with champagne and fizz is all about the bright and bubbly.
Sour and bitter drinks fall under the Snitch while the Bon Vivant, seeking to stand out from the crowd favours exotic flavours with the likes of the Riviera Fizz and Caribbean Cobbler. Staying true to the name, the Honey Trap is sweet and decadent with a sting while the Hardboiled Detective is about strong and stirred down whisky and rye drinks. Swingers are catered for with large format drinks and punches for a minimum of 4 guests.
Much like Eau de Vie in Sydney and Melbourne, theatrics are part of the guest experience be it exotic glassware and liquid nitrogen, sabrage or champagne towers.
