Brussels Sprout Gin
Brussels sprout is hardly a flavour one associates with gin yet Pickering’s Gin have released a Brussels sprout flavoured gin as part of their yearly “Festively Flavoured Gin Baubles”. The gin is described as “unmistakably ‘sprouty’ with a surprisingly sweet, slightly nutty taste with a green, herbaceous and peppery twang”. (source)
Sydney Lockout Laws to be Scrapped
Sydney’s controversial lockout laws will be dramatically rolled back in an effort to strengthen the night-time economy. The 1:30am lockouts introduced in 2014 will be lifted in the CBD entertainment district but will remain in place for Kings Cross. The NSW Premier hopes to introduce changes to the contentious legislation by the end of the year. (source)
The announcement that the NSW Government will be rolling back lockout laws has been welcomed by the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA).
“We’re keenly looking forward to the report from this inquiry due 30 September which we expect will more fully address the suite of reforms needed to unlock the power of Sydney’s night time economy,” said Michael Rodrigues, Chair, NTIA. “Our concern in the interim remains that as long as lockouts are in place in Kings Cross, Sydney’s global brand reputation will be unnecessarily tarnished.”
Glenfiddich Grand Cru
Glenfiddich has released a new luxury expression, Glenfiddich Grand Cru wine finish aimed at redefining moments of celebration. The 23-year-old single malt is matured in American oak and ex-Sherry casks then finished for four months in a mixture of first-fill and second-fill French oak casks, which ‘have been used in fermenting the wine that will eventually become Champagne’. As this website states, “The majority of Champagne producers use stainless steel tanks for the primary fermentation of their still wines, although a small handful of producers, including Krug, Bollinger, Lanson and Veuve Cliquot, ferment using oak casks.” William Grant & Sons has not disclosed from which Champagne houses the cuvée casks were sourced.
