World Cocktail Day is on May 13 and what better way to celebrate than by pre-batching cocktails and sharing with friends. Here’s How to Batch the Maple Blossom Cocktail for a Crowd.
The Maple Blossom cocktail combines bourbon and Chairman’s Reserve Gold Rum with citrus and maple syrup in a shaken, sour-style drink served up. It’s an elegant sipper, easy to prepare and makes an ideal cocktail for a crowd.
Created by bartender Zac Lew of Sydney rum bar The Forgotten Cask, the Maple Blossom cocktail is a riff on the Kentucky Blossom originally attributed to Karl Franz Williams of Solomon & Kuff in New York. The original recipe used honey instead of maple syrup, and a different ratio of bourbon and rum.
Below is the recipe for one followed by a batched recipe that serves 8-10 people. To batch the cocktail, simply pour the ingredients, including water for dilution into a glass bottle with a lid and give it a swirl. The pre-batched cocktail can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days but as always, fresh is best.

- 300 ml bourbon
- 300 ml lemon juice
- 150 ml maple syrup
- 700 ml water
Equipment: funnel, 2 L glass bottle with lid
Glassware: coupettes

Using the funnel, pour the bourbon, rum, lemon juice, maple syrup and water in a clean 2 litre glass bottle with lid. Seal the bottle and give it a gentle swirl to mix all the ingredients. Pro Tip
- If you’re planning to pre-batch and serve the cocktail soon, use 300 ml of water and 500g of ice to the mix in a large container. This way the cocktail will cool and dilute quickly.
