New Healesville Distillery
Four Pillars in the Yarra Valley, is set for a massive $6 million, 12-month re-development commencing the week starting 8 February 2021. The location will be directly adjacent to its current home in Healesville and will incorporate new hospitality, production, bottling and an events space. The new building will incorporate hospitality for up to 250 guests, a new yet-to-be-named sixth German-designed Carl still, increased off-street parking, as well as retail and a special sensory surprise yet to be revealed.
Margarita Guide
Altos Tequila and its co-creator Dre Masso who we had the pleasure of interviewing have teamed up to create a guide for making sustainable Margarita. The guide includes the use of six cubes of ice per drink to reduce waste, husks of citrus fruit to make garnishes and encourages drinkers to utilise local ingredients to substitute the citrus and sweet components. To The Margarita recipes will be revealed on @altostequila Instagram page on Margarita Day on 22 February.
Spirit Thief
A spirit thief is a tool used in distilling to extract a small amount of whisky from an aging barrel for sampling. It’s also the name of an independent bottle from Tasmania who has just released the Exploration Series, an exceptional range of whiskies. More information here.
Freezer Martini
We’ve long been advocates of the Martini, especially when it’s pre-batched and enjoyed straight from the freezer. This article takes it a step further and puts freezer Martinis to the blind taste test.
