The Water of Life whisky film screening with Cape Byron Distillery, the return of face to face events, Sydney Brewery rebrands with fresh new look and more in this week’s industry news.
The Water of Life Whisky Film Screening
On Thursday 1st April 2021 at 6pm AEST, an exclusive Screening of The Water of Life will take place virtually and at Cape Byron Distillery cellar door followed by a Q&A with master distiller and Co-Founder Jim McEwan, Eddie Brook and film director Greg Swartz.
The Water of Life is a feature documentary that focuses on the craftsmen, chemists, and renegades at the heart of the whisky revolution. The film follows Jim McEwan, the world’s most awarded Scotch whisky distiller, during his time in Australia at Cape Byron distillery, where he played a pivotal role in the birth of their new spirit, the soon-to-be-released single malt whisky.
Whisky fans can also choose to access the viewing without the whisky tasting kit which is comprised of 25ml samples of Cape Byron Distillery New Make Spirit, Cape Byron Distillery Single Malt Whisky and Barrel-aged Mac. Liqueur.
Cocktails & Bars had the pleasure of visiting Cape Byron Distillery as guests of the Brookie’s family and met with Jim McEwan at the time of the preview of the new make spirit. You can view our video interview here. We also had the exclusive to tell the story of the Cape Byron Distillery back in 2016 when it launched. This is an opportunity not to be missed and with limited tickets available, we recommend you book asap.
The Return of Face to Face Events
And in positive signs that life is heading back towards some normality, face to face events are slowly returning to the scene.
- The Whiskey Coop at The Wild Rover bar in Surry Hills held its first members’ tasting on the even of St Patrick’s Day with a tasting of Midleton distillery whiskies.
- The Whisky Show is back around Australia and is taking place in Sydney on 14 and 15 May at the usual venue at Stamford Plaza, Mascot.
- Campari Academy is back with a bartender masterclass and training session with Sharon Flynn, one of Australia’s leading expert on fermentation.
Sydney Brewery Brand Relaunch
We may be all about distilled spirits but we always enjoy a good ale and refreshing cider. Our friends at Sydney Brewery, the people behind the Sydney Cider Cocktail Competition, have relaunched their range of beer and cider with the help of Boldinc who reinvigorated the brand. The packaging’s fresh new look “captures the eclectic bunch of characters behind the brewery, the down to earth, the quirky, the artistic and the unexpected aspect that is at the heart of Surry Hills, but also sums up the team’s brewing philosophy.” Take a look at the new branding here.
