- Brix Distillers, Sydney’s newest craft rum distillery and bar has now opened in Surry Hills.
- The Monin Cup 2018 Australian Championship were held at Zeta Bar with Kelham Waterfield from The Duke of Clarence in Sydney taking out the first prize. The theme was Mix Your Origins showcasing local spirits and native ingredients. The judges were Sarah Miller (Bar Tapa), David Nguyen-Luu (Barrelhouse Group), Christian Comparone (Zeta Bar) and myself, Corinne Mossati (Cocktails & Bars, Gourmantic)
- The winners of Icons of Whisky Australia 2019 were announced in Adelaide.
- A new distillery is planned for Tasmania (via Spirits Business)
- Sydney Brewery, producers of craft beer and Sydney Cider who held a cocktail competition early this year has relocated to Surry Hills along with a new bar.
New Spirit Releases
- Wild Turkey Longbranch was launched by Master Distiller Eddie Russell in Australia.
- Roku Gin launched in Sydney with an immersive tasting experience event where each room brought a botanical to life.
- Glenfiddich Winter Storm, a limited-edition whisky that has been finished in Canadian Icewine casks is released in Australia.
- The Balvenie is celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Balvenie 12 yo Doublewood with a special dram, The Balvenie 25 yo Doublewood.
New Bars
- Old Mate’s Place, Sydney’s newest rooftop bar by Dre Walters, Gabrielle Walters and Daniel Noble has now opened.
- Nick & Nora’s, a new bar by the Speakeasy Group is scheduled to open this month in Sydney’s western suburb of Parramatta.
- Redfern Surf Club brings a ‘made-for-good-times’ drinks list to Sydney.
- Jasper’s brings together cocktails, whisky, gin, rum, cigars and jazz to Melbourne.
