Blended Scotch whisky Johnnie Walker has launched Johnnie Walker Aged 18 Years, previously known as Johnnie Walker Platinum Label.
Johnnie Walker Platinum Label Scotch has been rebranded as an 18 Year Old expression. The former grey-silver label has been replaced with a gold one that declares the age statement.
For this expression, Master Blender Jim Beveridge sought to create a smooth and complex whisky with distinctive, big flavours. However, as older malts can become quite constrained over time, he unlocked their flavour by using small, carefully judged quantities of 18-year-old Lowland grain whisky. A short film which follows Jim Beveridge in his pursuit of the ultimate 18-year-old blended Scotch whisky can be viewed here.
Up to 18 different whiskies were chosen for their flavour and character, including classic Speyside malts such as Cardhu, Glen Elgin and Auchroisk for their sweetness and elegance; fruity and complex Highland Malts including Blair Athol and aged island malts to introduce a subtle smoke.
