Fruit & Spice is a non-alcoholic Christmas cocktail that’s big on flavour and very low in sugar.
When it comes to Christmas, non-alcoholic Christmas cocktail recipes that aren’t a mixture of sweet fruit juices are far and few in between. If you’re a designated driver or not drinking alcohol for any reason, this non-alcoholic cocktail ticks the box in flavour and won’t make you feel left out.
The drink was created by James Snelgrove, Australian Brand Ambassador for Seedlip Drinks for an 8 course degustation event paired with non-alcoholic cocktails. It tasted like Christmas in a glass and we thought it was well worth replicating at home during the holiday period.
Seedlip Spice 94 is stirred with verjus in a 3:2 ratio without any ice. Verjus is the juice of young unfermented grapes. It’s very low in sugar and is often used in cocktails to add bright acidity. The drink is served in a coupette with an ice sphere with grated toasted walnuts on tops. Preserved pomegranate arils (in salt and sugar) are added to the drink but due to time constraints, we improvised and used pomegranate arils that were chilled in the freezer overnight.
Fruit & Spice Non-Alcoholic Christmas Cocktail has the flavour of warm spices balanced with the acidity of the verjus while the grated walnuts add a textural element and a nutty note. It’s elegant to sip and the frozen pomegranate arils are fun to pop in the mouth.
