The Last Word cocktail is one of the most delicious and refreshing drinks from the Prohibition-era originally created at the Detroit Athletic Club.
The equal parts cocktail is a sour style of drink made with gin, Green Chartreuse, Maraschino liqueur and fresh lime juice, shaken and served up. The flavour profile is layered combining the botanicals and freshness of the gin with the herbal notes of Chartreuse, the sweetness of the cherry balanced with the tartness of the fresh lime juice. You can read all about Chartreuse in our primer article here.
For a variation of The Last Word, swap the gin for the smokiness of mezcal. It adds another dimension to the drink with earthiness and smoke that complement the herbal notes of the Green Chartreuse.
