Turbo Gin and Tonic: Last summer, we had the Frosé craze and pink slushies. Will this drink become the new summer trend?
Social media spotting has led us to a new trend in boozy caffeine refreshment. The Turbo Gin and Tonic is a drink making waves on instagram, a simple combination of gin, cold brew coffee and tonic water.
To make the Turbo Gin and Tonic, start by preparing the cold brew coffee by steeping ground coffee beans in cold water overnight. As the coffee slowly infuses, the flavour is extracted from the beans leaving behind the bitter notes behind. The result is a smoother and almost sweeter tasting brew.
Next, choose your favourite gin and tonic combination. The drink works best with a gin that has a heavy juniper base, or a gin that is citrus forward. The botanicals of the gin along with the bitterness of the tonic and the sweetness of the cold brew coffee are the key elements that make the drink.
With vodka claiming the top spot for caffeine-based cocktails, gin is edging its way into the coffee-liquor trend. Will the Turbo Gin and Tonic overtake the Espresso Martini? Will it be the next craze? You be the judge. Either way, it’s a tasty afternoon pick me up in the sun.
