Agave y Amor Cocktail is a tequila and mezcal cocktail that’s earthy and vegetal with a kick of spice and gentle lingering smoke.
Agave y Amor cocktail is a riff on Agave You My Heart, combining jalapeño-infused reposado tequila with a touch of mezcal, syrup, fresh lime juice and red capsicum juice. It’s earthy and vegetal with a kick of spice and gentle lingering smoke.
The tequila infusion can be done in advance but all it takes is 15-20 minutes. In the meantime, the capsicum juice can be prepared either by juicing red capsicums or blending them with a splash of water then straining the liquid. This step can also be done ahead but the cocktail tastes best when all the ingredients are freshly prepared.

Ingredients
- 45 ml reposado tequila infused with jalapeño*
- 15 ml mezcal
- 15 ml simple syrup
- 15 ml freshly squeezed lime juice
- 20 ml red capsicum juice**
- sea salt
Glassware: coupette
Method
In a cocktail shaker, add the tequila, mezcal, lime juice, syrup, red capsicum juice over ice and shake hard until very cold. Strain into a chilled coupette. Add a sprinkle of sea salt.
* To make jalapeño-infused tequila, in a glass jar with a lid, infuse 250 ml of reposado tequila with 1/4 to 1/2 chopped jalapeño pepper. Close the lid and give it a gentle swirl. Leave to stand at room temperature for approximately 15-20 minutes. Taste frequently and once it has reached the desired level of heat, fine strain and bottle.
** To make the red capsicum juice, run it though a juicer. Alternatively, in a blender, add coarsely chopped capsicum with a splash of water and blend until smooth. Fine strain the liquid using a fine strainer lined with a muslin cloth. Store the the capsicum juice in the fridge for up to 3 days.
