If you’re a die hard whisky fan celebrating Burns Night, chances are you have a line up of fine single malt whiskies to enjoy, perhaps with some haggis with neeps and tatties. But there’s no reason not to start with a whisky cocktail or two before your Burns Supper.
Burns Night is widely celebrated in Scotland on the 25th January every year, paying homage to Scottish writer and poet, Robert Burns famous for writing Tam O’Shanter and Auld Land Syne among other great works. In other parts of the world, it may be the excuse needed to raise a dram or two in the name of man also known as Rabbie Burns.
Named after him, the Bobby Burns cocktail is a good choice to start. The three ingredient cocktail is an easy one to make at home. The drink first appeared in the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book and specifies equal parts of whisky and vermouth with a dash of Benedictine that gives the stirred drink herbaceous notes. If you like your cocktails on the boozier side, with more whisky upfront, double up on the whisky as per the recipe below.
