A cross between a Mint Julep and a whiskey sour, the Whiskey Smash is a refreshing summer whiskey cocktail that is easy to make at home.
The Whiskey Smash cocktail recipe features in Jerry Thomas’ Bartenders Guide: How To Mix Drinks 1862 Reprint: A Bon Vivant’s Companion and consists of uncomplicated ingredients: whiskey or bourbon, lemon, simple syrup and mint. Lemon and mint are muddled together before whiskey is added with simple syrup and everything is shaken with ice. Served in a short glass full of crushed ice, it makes a refreshing summer cocktail to sip in the late afternoon or when friends drop in.
In this recipe, we’ve used bourbon which imparts a sweeter flavour to the drink but you can also make it using Scotch whisky.
