Named after the famous tree-lined avenue in Paris, the Champs-Elysées Cocktail is a marriage of cognac and citrus with a herbal note from Chartreuse.
The Champs-Elysées cocktail is a variation of the Sidecar with a herbal note from Chartreuse. The cocktail is referred to in Harry Craddock’s 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book but the recipe in the book does not specify if it’s Green or Yellow Chartreuse. Both variations are used in cocktails with different ratios.
This recipe for the Champs-Elysées cocktail uses Green Chartreuse to highlight the herbal flavours in the drink. Yellow Chartreuse will give the drink a sweeter profile with a honeyed note. Regardless of which Chartreuse is used, the cocktail can be a little on the sweet side but it comes down to personal preference and the amount of sugar syrup used.
