Sidecar Cocktail Recipe: The Sidecar cocktail is a simple three ingredient drink to come out of Prohibition, made with a base of brandy or Cognac that is both sweet and sour.
The origins of the drink remain disputed but the Sidecar is derived from the Brandy Crusta, which is the precursor to the Margarita and has inspired other drinks such as the Daiquiri.
The recipes for the Sidecar cocktail are as varied as the origins of the drink. Some recipes state a 1:1:1 ratio of brandy:lemon:triple sec while others double the brandy in a 2:1:1 ratio. It’s best to experiment to your taste. You can also sugar the rim of the glass by running a cut lemon around it and dipping in fine castor sugar.
