Named after the renowned silent film actor, the Charlie Chaplin Cocktail marries sloe gin with apricot brandy and lime juice.
When it comes to getting started with sloe gin cocktails, the Charlie Chaplin Cocktail is often mentioned as the go-to. The drink was created at the Waldorf Astoria Bar in New York City prior to 1920 and is featured in A.S. Crockett’s “The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book.”
The cocktail is named after comedy actor and film maker Charlie Chaplin (1889–1977) who is known for his silent films of the 1920s to the 1940s.
Equal parts of sloe gin and apricot brandy may sound a little on the sweet side but the lime juice cuts through some of the sweetness to deliver a sweet/tart and fruity cocktail.
