Jameson Select Reserve launched in Australia at the Jameson Bartender Ball held during Bar Week. Ger Buckley, Master Cooper at the Midleton Distillery introduced the new expression after a live barrel reconstruction and barrel charring demonstration.
Jameson Select Reserve Small Batch (40% ABV) is made from a high proportion of Irish pot still whiskey blended with a rare small batch grain whiskey. The grain whiskey is unique to this Jameson expression and is triple distilled in small batches. The whiskey is matured in flame-charred bourbon barrels and sherry casks which yields richer, deeper and more caramelised flavours. No age statement is given but it is believed to be aged around 10 to 12 years.
On the nose, the Irish whiskey has a marked richness with notes of stone fruit, intensified aromas of butterscotch, fudge and creamy toffee. Luscious and creamy on the palate, there is fruity sweetness with vanilla, notes of charred wood and spice and yutty notes are in abundance. The finish is long and lingers with a mix of toasted oak and spice.
This is a gem of a whiskey and the new favourite in the Jameson Irish Whiskey range.
