Jigger & Pony Takes Number One Spot in Asia’s 50 Best Bars
Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2020 were announced digitally on 14 May 2020 with Jigger & Pony in Singapore taking out first place. Here’s the full list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2020 including the recipients of the Industry Icon Award and the inaugural Art of Hospitality Award.
(Some) Bars Re-Open
With the newly-relaxed coronavirus restrictions in some Australian states, some bars have re-opened last weekend with social distancing and the 10 person maximum rules in place, among other requirements. Certain bars are taking bookings so if you’re planning on visiting, it’s best to check in advance with each venue.
Intrepid Spirits Acquires Regal Rogue Vermouth
Intrepid Spirits – an independently-owned spirits company with offices in Shanghai, Dublin, Chicago and San Francisco – has acquired a majority position in the Australian vermouth company Regal Rogue. Mark Ward, Regal Rogue’s founder, will continue to be heavily involved in the development of the brand, working closely with the marketing team at Intrepid to expand the distribution and presence of Regal Rogue worldwide.
Amended Dates for Sydney Bar Week 2020
Spanton Media Group has announced the postponed and amended dates for Sydney Bar Week 2020 which will now take place from Sunday 25 October to Tuesday 27 October. The Indie Spirits Tasting, The Business of Bars Conference, and the Bartender of the Year will all take place over the three days. Bartender Magazine Australian Bar Awards will take place on Tuesday 27 October in a cocktail party format to be held at Upstairs at The Beresford in Sydney.
Spirited Awards Top 10 Nominees
Tales of the Cocktail Foundation has announced the Top 10 Nominees for the Spirited Awards 2020. Here is the full list of the nominees in all categories. The top 4 Finalists will be named on June 1st, 2020.
Pegu Club Closes
Pegu Club in New York has permanently closed after nearly 15 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Owner Audrey Saunders opened the highly acclaimed cocktail bar in 2005 and was one of the first craft cocktail bars to break into the New York scene. (source)
