Jared Brown, cocktail historian and Sipsmith Master Distiller has written a book entitled, Sip: 100 Gin Cocktails with Just Three Ingredients.
Sip is the first book released by the London distillery and is comprised of recipes that take the reader from summer sipping to winter warmers. The premise of the book is that cocktails need not be overly complicated to be delicious.
The hardback book has all the branding elements of Sipsmith, with dark green colour and copper highlights reminiscent of Prudence, the copper pot still. In fact, the book echoes the story of Sipsmith where the founders did not seek to create a complicated gin recipe using esoteric ingredients but to celebrate the craftsmanship of a London dry gin.
The cocktail recipes are easy to follow and are divided into four chapters. Really Simple stands true to its name and includes The Fairfax (gin, ice and a glass), Gin & It and the Gin Rickey. Classics include favourites such as the Dry Martini, Gimlet, Southside, Hanky Panky and Aviation designed to ease the novice home bartender into mixing drinks.
Occasions include the Two Sherry Tini, French 75, Gin Basil Smash and features seasonal drinks as well as food pairing favourites, celebratory sips, pudding time and nightcaps. New Takes include the Gin Penicillin, Raspberry Gin Sling and Easy Clover Club for simpler interpretations of popular drinks.
Sloe Gin gets an epilogue in the Sloe It Down chapter with the Charlie Chaplin and Hot Mulled Sloe.
