How to make a Sloe Gin Negroni with three twists on the classic equal parts cocktail.
Sloe gin is made by steeping sloe berries (the fruit of the blackthorn shrub) in gin with sugar for a long period of time which creates a tart and fruity spirit that adds richness and complexity to cocktails.
When it comes to making a Sloe Gin Negroni, a few options present themselves. One is to use sloe gin in place of London dry gin (or other dry gin) to create a lower ABV drink that makes a sessionable aperitif cocktail. Another is to use both sloe gin and dry gin in equal parts with sweet vermouth and Campari. The third is to substitute sloe gin for the sweet vermouth component. Each variation brings different flavours forward so it pays to experiment and find the one to your liking.
In these recipes, we’ve deviated from the norm of serving the drink an old fashioned glass and replaced it with a coupette and an ice sphere for more elegant sipping.
Whether you’re looking for a winter cocktail, an easy equal parts cocktail or even a Christmas cocktail recipe, the cocktail is a delicious twist on the classic.
