When it comes to mixing Martinis, one rarely turns to agave spirits. The Smoke and Agave Martini combines two agave spirits, tequila amd mezcal, in a dry Martini style of cocktail, served up with no garnish.

Tequila is a spirit often associated with shots, a party drink that some swear never to touch again. But the agave spirit can be served in many elegant ways such as in a stirred drink.
The cocktail is a riff on the Smoky Martini which makes use of peated whisky to add smoke to the drink. The Smoke and Agave Martini cocktail follows a popular dry Martini ratio with a base spirit of blanco tequila, a touch of dry vermouth and a barspoon of mezcal for a touch of smoke. This is a Martini for agave lovers. Serve very chilled, or better still, pre-batch the Martini with dilution and serve straight from the freezer.
Tequila is only made from the blue weber agave and by contrast, the majority of mezcal is made from agave angustifolia (espadín) yet over 30 different species of agave can be used. Always choose a premium brand made from 100% agave tequila not a mixto.
