The second drink in our Squid Ink Cocktails series for Halloween is the Corpse Reviver No. 666.
The Corpse Reviver cocktail needs little introduction. The “hair of the dog” classic cocktail featured in the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book by Harry Craddock is known for its alleged ability to bring back the dead. It’s also a very tasty cocktail.
Corpse Reviver No. 666 has the usual mix of gin, triple sec, Lillet Blanc and lemon juice in an absinthe-rinsed glass. Here it takes a salty note with the addition of squid ink. We found that the salinity of the squid ink enhanced the sour notes of the drink so we’ve modified the lemon juice ratio to make the drink more balanced. Taste as you make and adjust to your liking.
In keeping with the Halloween cocktails theme, the drink is garnished with two skewered “eyeballs”, or lychees stuffed with blueberries. For an extra black effect, dip the “eyeballs” in the drink.
