Whisky enthusiasts, do you have what it takes to decipher The Glenlivet Code?
The Glenlivet has launched a new limited-edition single Scotch malt aimed at taking whisky enthusiasts on a discovery journey. Following from The Glenlivet Alpha & The Glenlivet Cipher, The Glenlivet Code (ABV 48%) is introduced without cask information or tasting notes, testing the senses of even the most discerning whisky drinker. Only 10,000 bottles have been made worldwide, with 2,000 bottles available in Australia from mid-July.
Alan Winchester, The Glenlivet Master Distiller, crafted The Code using new techniques and specially selected casks never before used. The result is an innovative and unique whisky that stays true to the brand’s smooth and fruity tasting notes while presenting an entirely new flavour experience. The whisky is presented in a sleek, opaque black bottle so no secrets are revealed.
“We have been given a truly unique opportunity to create a new whisky that pushes the boundaries of what people think they know about Glenlivet,” says Alan. “The Glenlivet Code is a mystery, concealed in a labyrinth of secret flavours within its jet-black bottle. We’re excited to invite whisky fans to challenge their senses as they try to unlock The Code’s tasting notes and discover a moment of definitive pleasure”.
To support the launch, whisky drinkers are being challenged to embark on a digital flavour journey, inspired by the iconic British code breakers of Bletchley Park. By scanning a code on the back of the whisky bottle using the Shazam app, participants enter an interactive tasting experience where they are joined and greeted by Winchester.
Here, with their glass of whisky in hand, they will be able to select four aromas for the nose, four flavours for the palate and the intensity of each – ultimately choosing from thousands of possible combinations that make up The Code. At the end of the challenge, drinkers will be given a score based on how well their tasting choices match the tasting notes of Winchester and ranked in a global leader board.
The official tasting notes will be released internationally at the end of 2018. Until then, participants wanting to crack the code can enter the digital game as many times as they please.
