Vulson White Rhino Rye is a 100% unaged organic rye spirit produced at the Domaine des Hautes Glaces in the French Alps.
The spirit is named after Marcus Vulson de la Colombière, a famous heraldist, historian and poet who, in the seventeenth century built the chateau on the domaine that houses the distillery. He was known to draw different monsters including a Rhino, but the one on the label belongs to Ambroise Paré, the favourite barber of the French kings.
White Rhino Rye is the first release from Vulson, a collaboration between Domaine des Hautes Glaces and Xavier Padovani of Experimental Cocktail Club, previously global brand ambassador for Monkey Shoulder and Hendrick’s Gin.
From grain to bottle, Vulson White Rhino Rye is produced on an organic farm that grows, distills and bottles on site. Caroas is the rye variety, a winter cereal with a distinctive blue hue. The spirit is fermented between 48 and 120 hours before the wash undergoes a multi stage distillation process in live-flame onion-shape copper pot stills. The spirit is then rested in stainless-steel tanks for a minimum of eight months. The white rye, which has no additives and is non-chilled filtered, is bottled at 41% ABV using a gravity-based system.
