Next in our cocktails for a crowd series, we take a look at how to batch a Manhattan for a crowd and have it ready to serve when guests arrive.
There are essentially two methods for batching a Manhattan, with or without dilution. In this case, we’re adding water for dilution and leaving the pre-batched drink to chill in the fridge until ready to use. For more information on dilution, refer to How to Calculate Dilution for Pre-Batched Cocktails. When using bitters in pre-batched cocktails, it’s better to start with less than the required amount then taste and adjust to your liking.
How to Batch a Manhattan for a Crowd
For 8 serves
Ingredients
- 480 ml rye whiskey
- 240 ml sweet vermouth
- 12-14 dashes Angostura bitters
- 160 ml filtered water
Equipment: 1 litre glass bottle with a seal, funnel
Glassware: coupettes
Garnish: maraschino cherries
Method
Using the funnel, add the rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters and water to a clean 1 litre bottle. Seal the bottle and give it a gentle swirl to mix all the ingredients. Keep in the fridge until ready to use.
For an individual serve, pour into a chilled coupette and garnish with a maraschino cherry.
