The ‘Summer of Limoncello Cocktails‘ series continues with the Limoncello Basil Spritz, ideal for afternoon summer sipping.
You can’t beat a carbonated drink in summer and this spritz combines two very complementary flavours. The sparkling drink with dry Prosecco marries the brightness of lemons with the herbaceous and peppery notes of basil.
Basil is a summer herb and comes in many varieties that are easy to grow in a cocktail garden. These include the common sweet basil, the purple-coloured opal basil, Thai basil with an aniseed note, holy basil with a hint of clove and African blue basil, a perennial type of basil that flowers all year round.
The aromatic herb is used as garnish. Slap a basil sprig between the palms of your hands to release the essential oils and aromas before adding it to the drink.
