Mezcal Gin is a unique spirit that brings together an ancient distillate from the Americas with one of the most popular spirits in Europe.
At the heart of Mezcal Gin (45% ABV) is agave cenizo, a wild species that takes from 12 to 14 years to mature and imparts an aromatic character to the mezcal. After it’s distilled, the spirit is macerated with botanicals then vapour infused before it undergoes a second distillation.
Juniper, cardamom, dragon eye, guinea pepper, angelica root, coriander seed, orange peel, nutmeg, chile ancho, hibiscus flower, lemongrass and avocado leaves go into making Mezcal Gin. The result is a liquid with viscosity in the glass, initial smoke aromas followed the botanicals, mainly juniper, cardamom and dragon eye. The palate is complex with botanicals at the fore followed by the smoky agave flavour.
Mezcal Gin lends itself well to cocktails such as the Mezcal Gin Sour (pictured), Little Vesper and Breakfast in Durango.
