Our monthly round-up for September 2016 of new and upcoming bars including bar news.
- The Speakeasy Group (Eau de Vie, The Roosevelt, EDV Melbourne, Boilermaker House) is opening a new Sydney venue in 2017. Mjolnir Whisky Bar & Carvery is named after Thor’s hammer and will feature an extensive whisky bar and meat carvery located at the site of an old tobacco factory. 267 Cleveland St, Redfern, Sydney
- Melbourne’s Bar Exuberante has closed for the time being until it relocates to a new address. In its place, the team behind Jungle Boy and Kid Boston have taken over and are yet to announce their plans for the venue.
- Vernon’s Bar (pictured) has opened in Sydney’s inner western suburb of Summer Hill, located above One Penny Red restaurant. The small bar features a selection of Australian gin on rotation with a G&T menu with different garnishes to enhance the botanicals and a cocktail list with twists on classics. Level 2. - Sydney Bar Week is on from Saturday 17 September to Tuesday 20 September 2016 with a host of events, masterclasses and parties to get involved for both trade and consumers including the Indie Tasting. Australian Bartender Magazine’s annual bar celebration culminates in the Bar Awards as voted by the trade for the trade.
- Asia’s best cocktail bar, Singapore’s 28 Hong Kong St is popping up at Henrietta’s Supper Club in Sydney during Bar Week on 18 & 19 September and in The Everleigh in Melbourne on 21 & 22 September. More information here.
- The Oaks in Sydney’s Neutral Bay are hosting Monkey Shoulder’s “The Smallest Bar in the World“, a pop-up bar for whisky fans offering an intimate experience with no more than three people at any one time. The pop up bar runs until the 19th of September. 118 Military Rd, Neutral Bay, Sydney
