Rum Manhattan: When it comes to dark rum cocktails, Tiki drinks spring to mind with their exotic visual presentation and fruity flavours that take your palate to a tropical paradise.
Rum cocktails can also take the form of stirred drinks served up, such as the Rum Manhattan, a rich and elegant twist on a classic. A Manhattan is made with whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters. In this version, the whiskey is substituted with Appleton Estate Jamaican Rum.
Appleton Estate has recently rebranded its products and the Appleton Estate Signature Blend, previously known as Appleton VX remains a good choice for mixed drinks and cocktails such as the Jamaican Mule. Appleton Estate Reserve Blend has replaced Appleton 8 yo rum and now consists of a blend of rums aged between between 6.5 to 9 years old. Appleton Estate 12 yo is suited to stirred drinks while the drier and oak-forward Appleton 21 yo is best left for sipping neat.
The Rum Manhattan cocktail enhances the orange notes of the Appleton Reserve Blend and gives a delicious stirred drink that is easily made at home using three ingredients.
