When it comes to popular variations on the Martini, you’ll find a range of drinks slapped on with fruit and given the -tini suffix. Think Appletini, Flirtini and there’s even a TARDIS-tini. While the discerning Martini drinker tends to shy away from fruity imposters, this cocktail is set to please lovers of stirred drinks and savoury cocktails.
The Saltini is a cocktail by bartender Joe Worthington of Della Hyde in Sydney. He uses The Broadside Navy Strength Gin, a savoury salty gin made with Margartet River seawater which imparts a good umami kick. Dry and dirty, what makes this Martini stand out is the addition of a little sea salt and celery bitters to enhance the savoury notes of the gin – hence the name, the Saltini.
