Jangling Jack’s is a new, small neighbourhood style bar that has opened in Sydney’s Potts Point.
The venue by Jon Ruttan (ex-Mojo Record Bar) and Orlan Erin Raleigh has an instant welcoming vibe with eye-catching Victorian-style lampshades, dark timber tones, British green walls and vintage posters that give the bar a lived-in feel.
The welcoming space seats 75 persons. You can grab a comfortable stool at the bar or settle into the cosy banquettes, booths or perch along tall tables.
The drinks menu offers 10 strong cocktails and a succinct wine list. The cocktails are divided into House and Classics. The former take inspiration from the area’s local history paying homage to Les Girls, with vodka, Aperol, strawberry citrus and black pepper cocktail, and Juanita Nielsen in the tequila and Amontillado sherry-based, The Nielsen.
Kiki’s Hummingbird is a fun take on the Margarita with tequila, lime, orange blossom honey, and lime sherbet. The glass is rimmed with a mixture of icing sugar, citric acid and bicarbonate soda with lime wheels pulverised into fine powder. The effect adds zing and fizz to a vibrant drink.
From the Classics, the Trinidad Sour rises above any other of its kind. The combination of rye whiskey and a good measure of Angostura bitters, lemon and orgeat has perfectly balanced sour and spice notes and is indeed, a tough act to follow.
When it comes to food, you can’t go past the standout Jangling Jack’s Fried Chicken, crispy-skinned with honey butter and a gentle kick of chipotle.
Jangling Jack’s succeeds into bringing together good vibes, great cocktails in a welcoming and unpretentious setting. Just what every neighbourhood needs.
