Next in the sour cherry series and following from how to make sour cherry shrub, here’s how to use the shrub in a cocktail.
One of the simplest ways to enjoy shrubs in cocktails is to add a base spirit and top with soda water or a dry sparkling wine.
In a previous article, we detailed how to make sour cherry shrub using sustainable practices in the home bar. The shrub is the result of a food recipe where sour cherries are soaked in water then pitted. Both the liquid and the pits would have been discarded.
This Sour Cherry Shrub cocktail recipe combines gin with the shrub and lengthens it with soda water. A small measure of freshly squeezed lime juice brightens up the drink and highlights the sweet and tart notes of the sour cherry shrub.
If you’re looking for a refreshing, low ABV option that makes a delicious aperitif cocktail, it’s a simple recipe to follow. For a non-alcoholic option, simply omit the gin.
