Tucked beneath a Subway outlet is a little piece of New Orleans bringing a touch of Mardi Gras to Sydney’s CBD. The Swinging Cat is an elegant bar with a touch of class that invites you to huddle around comfortable lounges or sit a high stools near the bar.
The cocktails list impresses with classics from NOLA. Two pages dedicated to the Sazerac ensure you come back to try a different version each time you visit. The Ramos Gin Fizz will have you ordering another while the Vieux Carré sings the praises of rye whisky while the Creole Mary puts a spicy Cajun twist to the classic. The Hurricane cocktail is not to be missed, strong, boozy, well balanced and guaranteed to put a smile on your face particularly after a hard day’s work.
If all these cocktails have you hankering for a bite to eat, the shrimp and crab dumplings and the grilled cheese with smoked wagyu hot the right spot.
The name implies an intimate den small enough to swing a cat but you’ll find cosy seating, a vintage piano and table service. Highly recommended.
